Fund manager changes at Sanlam Investment Managers

28 Nov 08

Armien Tyer, managing director at Sanlam Investment Management (SIM) has announced the resignation of Johan de Bruijn, head of the small and mid cap sector, who joined the company in 2004. De Bruijn will be leaving the company in May 2009 to join an emerging markets asset management firm based in Washington.

Patrice Rassou, a senior portfolio manager at SIM, will take over the growth fund and Ricco Friedrich, head of value managed shares, who has been with the company for over five years, will look after the small caps fund. Friedrich previously held the position of head of Small Caps and during his period as fund managers, the Sanlam Small Cap fund was ranked the best fund in its category over one, three and five years.

SIM has also recently appointed Charl de Villiers into the small cap area.  With three years experience as an investment analyst in the mid to small caps arena, the SIM team believes he is a valuable addition to the team and compliments the existing skills in the Small Caps Team very well.

De Villiers  holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town and worked at the Aylett Investment Company as an analyst. He has completed his three CFA levels and qualified in 2008.
