It is as safe as internet banking or as if you were to have your own private ATM and safer than using a credit card in a shop or restaurant. It is certainly as safe as investing through a broker into another linked product company.

Your portfolio details are protected by passwords just as ATMs and internet banking do. All electronic data that is sent to us is also encrypted to ensure that the highest levels of security are maintained. When you use the INVEST/SWITCH/WITHDRAW and PORTFOLIO sections, you will see a locked padlock symbol at the bottom of your screen. That indicates that our website is secure. Clicking on the padlock will bring up the details of our digital security certificate.

Transacting on your account will require knowing your username and your password. It is also possible for you to change your password as often as you wish.

Prior to making your first investment, you will be required to fax us your details with your signature. We need your signature in order to be able to verify any subsequent changes to your account details. When you sell your unit trusts, the proceeds can only be paid into a bank account in the client’s own name. No third party bank account payments are allowed.

The money paid into the nominee account does not belong to Equinox.co.za. Like all linked product companies, it is set up in accordance with the Financial Services Board’s directives to protect your investment. The money in the nominee account can only be used for the purpose for which it was designated, i.e. purchasing the unit trusts you specified. You remain the legal and beneficial owner of any unit trusts purchased on your behalf.

Please Note:

When you enter your password and Windows enquires whether it should remember your password, please respond "NO". If you respond "YES", anyone using your computer will be able to access your portfolio details and switch and sell unit trusts on your behalf. This advice is valid for any online transacting (Internet Banking as well) where the user enters highly sensitive data in a Windows environment.
